ASHTON WAITING FOR THE CANDY
Well school is almost out. It's the end of May. That means it's Memorial Day weekend. Or in Brookings, Or. it's our Azalea Festival. You know how every town has it's special thing they celebrate? Pears, cranberries, roses etc. Well here it's Azaleas there's a big parade. Well OK if you live in Pasadena or NY not so big.
But, we love it. If you go to one of those parades in Pasadena or NY you have to get there hours or even the day before to get a good seat. Not in Brookings,OR. maybe 30 min. before and you can still get a great seat on the curb.
Not only the parade but there's a street fair. We have all the vendors selling their wares, pony rides, giant slide, bounce house, train ride. There's even a beer garden, I never have understood why they put those 2 words together beer and garden. Basically it's an outside bar with some fake bushes and a gate around it to keep the kids out, for those adults who can't go a few hours without a beer.
But, then there's the food, the good grease dripping food. Why does it always taste so good. Anything deep fried is good. Corn dogs, mounds o fries, and of course my daughters favorite Funnel Cakes,(correction they said they're called elephant ears) those are deep fried pastries sprinkled with powdered sugar. Enough to make our arteries close just thinking about them.
Well this year we will miss the festivities in town. We are heading north to the big city of Portland. We'll be there visiting with our daughters, son in law and grand kids. My daughter Dani assured me we would have a BBQ, because what's an American holiday with out a BBQ.
But, let's not forget
the reason we have this holiday called Memorial Day. Another thing that happens in our little town and in towns all over the US are celebrations to honor our fallen men and women in uniform, who have died for our country so that we could be free. So on this Memorial Day won't you take a moment to say a prayer thanking these heroes for what they have done to keep us a free nation.

I love the Azalea Festival!
Great photos of your grandkids! Looks like you all had a fun day. And, yes, it IS about honoring those who have fallen to keep us free.
Those gaps are gone! Good job!
Love the pics. What's an "Eggy." Your daughter knows.
